The science of the body
Research in neuroscience highlights how trauma affects brain function and body chemistry. At Izeeny Health, body, mind, physiology and psychology meet. We have a specialism working with somatic approaches for trauma and attachment issues, including medical trauma. We also work with people to identify strengths, resources, and a wisdom held in our bodies that are often overlooked. This somatic approach also feels strongly aligned with First Nations ways of knowing, where the body, land, and spirit are deeply interconnected.

So, we are here for you. We’re ready to listen.

Curious about body-mind therapy?
The physiology and movement of our body, our heartbeat, breathing, nervous system, tells a story - it reflects the ups, the downs, the adventures, the crazy hard parts of life. It is communicating with us all the time, though for many of us we remain largely focused on everyday living, with little awareness of this dynamic. However, it can be key to healing and holds a knowledge and wisdom beyond our conscious mind.
Body science, supporting physiology
After a traumatic event (including medical trauma) a physiological feedback loop of defence can become 'stuck' in a constant state of 'survival'. The great news is that the our physiology, with its natural capacity for regulation and renewal, actually holds keys to healing and our brains are malleable with the ability to create new pathways that promote healing and recovery. And we can learn to bring physiological and psychological supports to our nervous system to create shifts and changes in our physical and emotional experience.

However, this somatic approach is not just for trauma, we can draw on knowledge and wisdom in our physiology to discover unique strengths, resources, and resilience - maybe this is where your journey starts?

By listening to and learning to work with physiology, people can unlock greater health and well-being. A somatic-based approach can also help for people who struggle with purely verbal approaches to therapy.

About sensorimotor psychotherapy,
a body-mind therapy
There are three-phases to sensorimotor psychotherapy:
-
Phase 1 - brings a strong focus on helping you experience safety in your body as well as in relationships. It involves developing resources and learning how to regulate your autonomic nervous system.
-
Phase 2 - supports you to process memories by helping you understand and recognise the procedural movements of survival and defence that require completion so trauma memory can be successfully processed and integrated.
-
Phase 3 - allows for meaning-making and integration helping you explore integrating changes into daily life and relationships.

Establishing Phase 1 is key. This is the start point. For some, this may be enough.

Curious about tech & psychology?
At Izeeny we use digital tools to link emotions with the body as these are interlinked, impacting one another. Tech meets you where you are. Together with science-based techniques, it can support the reduction of the effects of chronic stress and anxiety on the body and mind and support your physical health. Tech can help you feel more in control of your emotional health and provide greater understanding of your relationship with your body and its impact on your quality of life.
