Frequently asked questions
What will happen at my first appointment? - We will email you with the details and directions. - Three days prior to your appointment you will receive an automated SMS reminder. - Your first session will be an assessment. It will seek to understand your difficulty, when it began, how it is affecting your life, and to gain some background information. Together a plan is created for future sessions and how frequently we should meet.
What can psychologists help with? - Psychologists have studied human behaviour, the brain, how people think, feel, learn and behave. - They use evidence-based approaches tailored to each client and assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of concerns. - They have been trained to assist people who are having difficulty coping or adjusting to life challenges. - Psychologists are professionally regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency who ensure that registered health practitioners are suitably trained, qualified and safe to practise. - You can confirm a psychologist is a registered practitioner by visiting the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency website.
How long are the sessions? How many sessions will I need? - Each individual therapy session is 50 minutes in length. - How many sessions you need depends on your situation and can be discussed with your therapist.
What is a mental health treatment plan? - A Mental Health Treatment Plan offers eligible clients 10 Individual Medicare Subsidised or Bulk Billed Sessions per calendar year. - Your GP provides this plan. - Initially 6 Medicare subsidised psychology are provided (if needed), with a further 4 sessions available subject to your GP's confirmation.
